Free versions of Office 365 for non-profit organisations
It was announced on Tuesday 10th that corporate giant, Microsoft would be giving away Office 365 free of charge to non-profits that qualify. These organisations will receive the cloud-based service included with Office applications. Such as: calendar, e-mail, HD video conferencing and lots more! This donation program is being offered in 41 countries across the world.
If organisations decide to upgrade from the cloud-only version of Office 365 to the desktop version then they will be charged a reduced rate of £2.85 per organisation in comparison to the standard £12.67.
This donation is in relation to Microsoft’s “Change for Good” program. This initiative involves the company giving out roughly £126 million worth of software per day to non-profits on a global scale.
Microsoft have written about this on their website: “In the hands of non-profit organizations, technology can boost productivity, increase effectiveness through better collaboration, and extend services to new communities and individuals in need.”
Alongside this, they went on to describe the effects that technology can have. “Moreover, technology can be a powerful force that opens exciting opportunities for non-profits to better achieve their missions and accelerate their impact.”
It could be argued that Microsoft should have given organisations the option of choosing Office 365 or Office 2013 because there’s virtually no difference in product price. Perhaps it’s an ulterior motive to increase the user-base of the (less-desirable) Office 365, or maybe it’s just a coincidence.
