Windows 9 – Future disappointment or success?
Despite the fact that “Windows 8.1” was released not long ago, it’s never too soon to start speculating what the next operating system has in store for us.
In fact, I’ve seen quite a few Windows users who have already started coming up with suggestions even though we’ve got a fair wait as Windows 9 is rumoured to release around April 2015.
I received mixed views after asking my peers what their opinion was on the matter. Some are looking forward to the prospect of a rehashed “Windows 7” or “Windows XP” but with improved security and reduced resource hogging whereas others have just being concerned about its simplicity and the types of features which are going to be readily available upon release.
After spending some considerable time researching people’s views about “Windows 9” online, I was actually able to devise my own ideas regarding what sort of features should be included in the next release:
Larger Selection Of Apps
There aren’t nearly enough offerings from the Windows store in comparison to Google Play or Apple’s App Store. Take note Microsoft, if you actually want computers to improve the tablet experience then you need a decent store which offers quality apps. That’s the heart and soul of tablets. Until some serious resources are put into their store, Microsoft have no chance of being taken seriously.
We Need Flexible Updates
Yes, we understand that updates are important, some more than others but it would be nice to be able to fine tune the settings so that we can decide when the system actually installs them. There have been too many occasions where I’ve shut down my computer in the late evening and had to wait until the updates have finished installing before I could eventually switch it off by the mains. It wouldn’t kill Microsoft to add an option window asking whether you wanted to ‘update now’ or ‘later’.
Increased Free Cloud Storage
In recent years, cloud has shot up in popularity and yet Microsoft doesn’t appear to have caught on. They only offer a puny 7GB of free space. And with the way the future is headed, consumers are probably going to want more than 200GB. This is the current cap on Microsoft’s OneDrive which will set you back roughly £60.
Bring Back The Start Button
Despite many complaints, some users are still missing the Start button, so there’s a high probability that Microsoft will be returning this interface feature in an enterprise version of Windows 9. *fingers crossed everyone*
Display The Time and Date
Sometimes the simplest of things can be the most frustrating. Both date and time should be visible upon accessing start mode but unfortunately you have to keep pulling out the Charms menu in order to view them.
